Unexpectedly strong labour market data has sparked a bearish response in crypto markets, with Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) teetering <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/25/01/42913406/bitcoin-fights-to-regain-94000-what-does-technical-analysis-say">around the $94,000 mark</a>.
What Happened: Data published on Friday shows the U.S. <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/macro-economic-events/25/01/42912480/us-economy-adds-256000-payrolls-in-december-as-tight-labor-market-tops-forecasts-dollar-treasury-yields-spike">added 256,000 parolls in December</a>, sending bond yields soaring and knocking Bitcoin off its morning recovery.
The apex crypto had recovered from $92,000 to $95,000 overnight, but quickly lost over $2,000 in reaction to the stronger-than-anticipated data. 
Crypto trader Jelle highlighted the abrupt shift in market sentiment, pointing out that the jobs data managed to reverse the price momentum with the words &#8220;stairs up, elevator down.&#8221;

Prominent technical analyst Kevin <a href="https://x.com/Kev_Capital_TA/status/1877712204121645076">argued</a> that the report&#8217;s strong labor market indicators—low unemployment and PCE inflation within the Federal Reserve's 2% range—are positive for the economy. 
Kevin believes the market&#8217;s negative reaction stems from an overreliance on rate cuts, even though the economy appears healthier without them.
"Report was bullish. Hopefully market comes to its senses," Kevin explained. 
Echoing a similar opinion, Charles Edwards, founder of Capriole Investments highlighted the market&#8217;s bearish overreaction to a strong employment report, which he sees as bullish in the long run.
He noted that fewer jobs would allow rates to stay high, but strong job numbers suggest the bull market could extend further.

dwards also <a href="https://x.com/caprioleio/status/1877720656995135793">pointed</a> out the extremely high intraday put-call ratio, comparable to COVID crash lows, suggesting a potential market bounce ahead.

Why It Matters: Before the report, analysts outlined <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/25/01/42909925/previewing-todays-most-important-jobs-report-what-it-means-for-bitcoin">potential market scenarios</a> based on varying unemployment outcomes.
A &#8220;hot&#8221; jobs report—defined as over 200,000 jobs added—was expected to trigger a selloff, which is precisely what happened.
Bitcoin saw whale transactions and exchange netflows dropping by 6.2% and 335%, respectively.
The It is trading at $94,400 at the time of writing, up 1.8% on the day.

The Details: Oral arguments are underway in the Supreme Court case challenging the pending ban of TikTok. And the Justices appear skeptical of the arguments presented by attorneys for TikTok and its users. 
Chief Justice John Roberts questioned TikTok&#8217;s ties to China and noted that Congress found that ByteDance cooperates with Chinese intelligence work and must comply with China's laws.

"Are we supposed to ignore the fact that the ultimate parent is in fact subject to doing intelligence work for the Chinese government?" Roberts asked.
Justice Brett Kavanaugh defended national security concerns related to data collection through the TikTok app and asked what will occur on the Jan. 19 deadline if the High Court does not act.&nbsp;
Noel Francisco, an attorney representing TikTok, replied that TikTok will &#8220;go dark&#8221; and &#8220;essentially, the platform shuts down.&#8221;&nbsp;
Why It Matters: The case could have implications for the other social media platforms which would most likely benefit from a ban of TikTok. Unless TikTok is sold to a non-Chinese company or the Supreme Court steps in, the platform <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/24/12/42712643/trump-asks-supreme-court-to-delay-tiktok-ban-as-he-pursues-a-political-resolution">will be removed</a> from app stores in the U.S. on Jan. 19. 
What Else: It should also be noted that President-elect Donald Trump was sentenced on Friday <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/25/01/42916780/donald-trump-receives-unconditional-discharge-in-new-york-hush-money-case-will-enter-white-house-as-convicted-felon">with an unconditional discharge</a> in the New York hush money case which could also be affecting Trump Media &amp; Technology shares. With the ruling, Trump avoids prison time or probation related to the case.

Needham analyst Serge Belanger upgraded Collegium Pharmaceutical, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/COLL#NASDAQ">COLL</a>) to Buy from Hold, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/COLL/analyst-ratings" rel="noreferrer noopener">with a price forecast of $46.</a>
Recently, Collegium provided 2025 guidance, expecting a top-line of $735 million &#8211; $750 million, including Jornay PM sales over $135 million and adjusted <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com//node/42871470" rel="noreferrer noopener">EBITDA of $435 million &#8211; $450 million.</a>
The analyst highlights that the guidance was higher than their estimates and aligned with Street consensus.
Per the analyst, the company&#8217;s valuation doesn&#8217;t fully reflect its growth, profitability, and cash flow, boosted by Jornay PM&#8217;s expected contribution.
Belanger also highlighted that the company&#8217;s valuation presents an attractive entry point, and that the continued growth of its pain portfolio, especially Xtampza and Belbuca, remains underappreciated.

The analyst notes that Collegium is significantly undervalued compared to its peers based on key sales and EBITDA metrics from 2025 guidance. The company has historically traded at a discount due to concerns over the generic threat to its pain products and its focus on opioids, which has limited its M&amp;A potential.
However, the analyst views Collegium&#8217;s entry into neurology and its future CNS product portfolio as essential steps in diversifying away from opioid products, which could bring its valuation more in line with its peers.
