Williams-Sonoma, Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/WSM#NYSE">WSM</a>) shares fell sharply on Thursday after posting results for its <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/05/b45563749/williams-sonoma-inc-announces-first-quarter-2025-results" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">fiscal first quarter of 2025</a>. The retailer reported revenue of $1.73 billion, a 4.2% increase from the same quarter last year and ahead of Wall Street&#8217;s estimate of $1.67 billion. Comparable brand revenue rose 3.4% year over year.
GAAP earnings per share of $1.85 beat the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/earnings">analyst consensus estimate of $1.77</a>.
Williams-Sonoma reported a gross margin of 44.3%, down 360 basis points from the prior year. The decline includes a 300-basis-point benefit from an out-of-period freight adjustment in the same quarter of 2024.

Adjusted gross margin fell 60 basis points year over year. The decrease was primarily due to a 220-basis-point drop in merchandise margins, partially offset by 120 basis points of supply chain efficiencies and 40 basis points of occupancy leverage.
Occupancy expenses rose slightly to $198 million, up 0.8% from the prior year.
Quarterly operating income was $291 million with a 16.8% margin, down 230 basis points. Excluding last year&#8217;s freight benefit, the margin rose 70 basis points.
Williams-Sonoma increased inventories by 10.3% year over year to $1.3 billion, pulling forward receipts to reduce potential FY25 tariff impacts.
&#8220;In the quarter, we saw an acceleration of the positive comp trend coming out of Q4, with all brands running positive comps,&#8221; commented Laura Alber, President and Chief Executive Officer.
&#8220;There is no doubt that existing macroeconomic and geopolitical uncertainties are a focal point for the market. But volatility is not new in our industry, and we are confident in our ability to adapt and navigate whatever lies ahead,&#8221; Alber added.
The company ended the quarter with $1 billion in cash and $119 million in operating cash flow, returning $165 million to shareholders through buybacks and dividends, with $1.1 billion remaining in repurchase authorization.
Williams-Sonoma maintains its fiscal 2025 and long-term outlook despite absorbing higher costs from the current tariff landscape. This includes existing tariffs such as the 30% levy on China, a 10% global reciprocal tariff, and 25% tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada, as well as on steel and aluminum.
The company emphasized that its guidance does not account for additional future tariffs and may be revised if material changes occur.
Williams-Sonoma expects fiscal 2025 net revenue to range between -1.5% and +1.5%, with comparable sales flat to up 3.0%. Operating margin is forecast between 17.4% and 17.8%, factoring in a 20-basis-point drag from last year&#8217;s extra week.
In dollar terms, revenue is projected at $7.60 billion to $7.83 billion, compared to the $7.67 billion consensus estimate, according to <a href="https://pro.benzinga.com/">BZ Pro</a>.
The company continues to target mid-to-high single-digit annual revenue growth and operating margins in the mid-to-high teens.

Analysts suggest that BofA's card data skews toward leisure spending and aligns with commentary from Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc. On the ski front, Vail Resorts, Inc. The lag may be linked to softer non-pass lift ticket sales, which are typically booked during the season and carry a higher price.
Looking ahead to next season, while the number of passes sold is down, total dollars collected are up through April 20. BofA adds that Memorial Day is typically a key trigger for pass sales, but an uptick in web traffic has yet to materialize.
For cruise, BofA notes that based on aggregated monthly debit and credit card data, spending has slowed from the strong double-digit growth seen late last year to flat year-over-year in April.
While some of this decline may be attributed to the timing of Easter, economic uncertainty over the past few months has also likely played a role.
Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NCLH#NYSE">NCLH</a>) specifically flagged a slowdown in booking activity, especially for longer European sailings. Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/RCL#NYSE">RCL</a>) kept its full-year 2025 net yield guidance unchanged, breaking from the usual pattern of upward revisions.
Overall, cruise operators remain well booked for 2025 and still have time to secure additional bookings for 2026 as the year progresses, BofA notes.

This is likely due to falling margins from the AI overview at the top of Google Search pages and Apple&#8217;s (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>) inclusion of AI search on its platforms.
This suggests that Google is going to stay weak for the foreseeable future.
Here&#8217;s the option play to enable us to profit from that weakness.
Trade structure &#8211; the long put spread explained &#8211; positioned for short continuation. 
My play here is a long put spread, which positions us for Google to remain weak. A long put spread involves purchasing a long put and financing part of the cost with a short put. 
The stock&#8217;s current relative resistance zone sits right around $176 and support sits below at $157, so our long put spread is going to look like this:

<li>Sell to open 1 GOOG 20Jun 2026 160 puts </li>
</ul>
This long put spread held a current debit of $3.22 at this writing, representing the total risk incurred in the trade. The breakeven price of the stock at expiration on this trade is $166.79 less commissions. 
The highest potential profit is $10 (the distance between the $170 and $180 strikes) less the cost of the debt incurred by buying the long put spread, so $10 &#8211; $3.22 = $6.78 minus commissions.
The strategy provides several ways to exit, but here are the main two:

<li>To sell the put spread at either the test of $160 or when the profit goal moves into your target parameters – particularly once the middle strike is tested near the expiration time. I often look for a 40%-70% return with these trending trades. </li>
<li>To sell the put spread when your loss threshold is breached. Customarily, this is 30% for me.</li>

My Top Big Tech Option Trade Of The Week

Bitcoin&#8216;s (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) recent surge to an all-time high of $111,900 has reignited discussions about its market dominance and the potential <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/25/05/45534496/altcoin-rotation-is-coming-expert-says-will-eth-xrp-dogecoin-benefit">implications for altcoins.</a>
As Bitcoin&#8217;s dominance approaches 64%, analysts are closely monitoring whether this trend will lead to a capital rotation into alternative cryptocurrencies.
Historically, a rise in Bitcoin&#8217;s dominance often precedes a shift where investors begin to diversify into altcoins. 
Speaking with Benzinga, Alice Liu, Head of Research at Coinmarketcap, noted, &#8220;With Bitcoin dominance climbing toward 63.3%, there's potential for short-term altcoin rotation.&#8221; 
She emphasized that as Bitcoin maintains its position above key levels, retail-driven tokens like Dogecoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/doge/usd">DOGE</a>), XRP (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/xrp/usd">XRP</a>), and Shiba Inu (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/shib/usd">SHIB</a>) could garner renewed attention, especially if accumulation by whales and retail wallets continues and broader sentiment remains in &#8220;Greed.&#8221;
The sentiment among retail investors is also shifting. 
Tom Bruni, VP of Community at Stocktwits, told Benzinga, &#8220;Over half our community sees Bitcoin hitting $150,000 in 2025, and nearly 50% expect altcoins to outperform this year.&#8221;
He highlighted the enduring appeal of legacy tokens, stating, &#8220;Legacy tokens like XRP, DOGE, and SHIB continue to dominate mindshare. Whether or not they lead in tech, they've proven they can lead in culture.&#8221;
While some altcoins may benefit from this potential rotation, others might not experience the same momentum. 
Aurelie Barthere, Principal Research Analyst at Nansen, pointed out, &#8220;XRP, for instance, previously benefited from speculative momentum tied to potential inclusion in FX reserves, a tailwind that is no longer present, unlike Bitcoin.&#8221;

She emphasized the importance of clear catalysts for altcoins to drive performance in the current market environment.
Kelghe D&#8217;Cruz, CEO of Pairs, highlighted the cyclical nature of the crypto market, stating, &#8220;The typical market cycle tends to follow a well-known pattern: Bitcoin runs up first, its dominance plateaus, and then altcoins begin to move.&#8221; 
He expressed optimism about Dogecoin&#8217;s future, mentioning the upcoming launch of DogeOS as a potential transformative initiative for the token.
However, not all experts are equally optimistic about all altcoins. 
Eneko Knörr, CEO of Stabolut, expressed skepticism about meme coins, stating, &#8220;Retail might chase them for hype cycles, but I believe other altcoins will offer stronger fundamentals and better long-term upside.&#8221; 
He acknowledged that XRP still has a defined use case and loyal community, which might help it maintain relevance.
Joe Z, Co-founder of DeAgentAI, emphasized the potential for capital rotation into altcoins, noting, &#8220;If Bitcoin maintains its position above $110,000, we could see strong allocations across OG altcoins like XRP, DOGE, and SHIB, especially among retail investors seeking higher returns than what BTC can provide in the short term.&#8221;
He also highlighted technological developments like Shibarium as potential catalysts for SHIB&#8217;s upward price momentum.

Shares of Lowe&#8217;s Companies Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LOW#NYSE">LOW</a>) tanked after the company Wednesday reported <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/market-summary/25/05/45559926/us-stock-likely-to-open-on-a-mixed-note-after-2-day-fall-we-do-not-see-the-us-economy-dipping-into-a-recession-this-year">mixed first-quarter results</a>.

Truist Securities: Lowe&#8217;s comps declined by 1.7% due to unfavorable weather conditioned earlier in the quarter, Ciccarelli said in the note. Sales accelerated as weather improved to bring the company's quarterly results in-line with expectations, he added.
After more than two years, base home improvement demand has become "fairly stable," the analyst stated. Management reiterated their full-year guidance, projecting comps of flat to up 1% and earnings of $12.15 to $12.40 per share.
Telsey Advisory Group: Although Lowe&#8217;s comp sales came under pressure, the decline was better than the consensus projection of 2.1%, Feldman said. The company's earnings of $2.92 per share came in higher consensus of $2.88 per share, he added.
Management maintained its full-year earnings guidance at $12.15-$12.40 per share, reflecting sales of $83.5-$84.5 billion, the analyst stated. The guidance implies that "tariffs are not expected to have a substantial negative impact on the business," he further wrote.
LOW Price Action: Shares of Lowe&#8217;shad declined by 1.48% to $224.00 at the time of publication on Thursday.
