Zohran Mamdani is expected to win the New York City Democratic Primary in a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/politics/25/06/46087359/zohran-mamdani-leads-nyc-mayoral-primary-andrew-cuomo-concedes-race">surprising turn of events, </a>defeating former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.
While the win secures Mamdani a spot on the general election ballot, he still faces a tough road in November's mayoral race.
What Happened: On Tuesday night, Cuomo—backed by several billionaires during the race—quickly congratulated Mamdani on his primary victory. But he also made it clear he hasn't ruled out an independent run in the November election. 

"I said he won the primary election," Cuomo <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/06/25/nyregion/nyc-mayor-election-november.html">told </a>the New York Times. "I said I wanted to look at the numbers and the ranked-choice voting to decide about what to do in the future, because I'm also on an independent line. And that's the decision, that's what I was saying."
With no candidate receiving a 50% majority on Tuesday night, voters&#8217; second-place votes will be counted in a process that eliminates candidates and continues until one remains.
Cuomo's defeat came as a surprise to many. The former governor resigned four years ago amid sexual harassment allegations, which he denied. Backed by billionaires, Cuomo also aligned more closely with the traditional Democratic establishment than Mamdani, a democratic socialist.
Mamdani, 33, has sparked widespread debate with a platform that includes freezing rent, raising taxes on the wealthy, free city bus service, universal child care, and city-owned grocery stores.
Those policies have proven unpopular with the wealthy city residents and could see money poured towards candidates to defeat Mamdani in the November election.

What Happens Next: Mamdani's potential win on Tuesday is no guarantee that he will win in November. Regardless of whether Cuomo jumps in as an Independent, Mamdani will face off against incumbent mayor Eric Adams.
Adams is a Democrat who has been at odds with his party and is choosing to run in the November election as an Independent.
Some Democrats are hoping that Cuomo doesn't run in the general election, as his inclusion could split votes between Cuomo and Adams and secure a path for Mamdani to win the election. The large majority of Democratic voters, who outnumber the Republicans six-to-one, according to the New York Times, could split the vote between multiple candidates.
Another potential option could be a third-party run by someone like Andrew Yang, who previously ran in the New York City mayoral race in 2021 and ran for president in the 2020 election.
Yang established the Forward Party and, according to The Hill, reached out to billionaire Elon Musk as recently as this month to collaborate on a third party.
"We have been of the opinion that America needed a new political party for a number of years," Yang told <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2025/06/07/elon-musk-third-party-andrew-yang-interview-00392288">Politico </a>in an interview.
Yang reached out to Musk at a time when Musk was feuding with President Donald Trump and even polled his X followers to see if a third party that represents those who identify in the middle politically should be launched. Over 5.6 million people voted in the <a href="https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1930685402631053403" target="_blank" rel="noopener">poll,</a><a href="https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1930685402631053403"> </a>with 80.4% saying yes, although not all the votes were likely from eligible American voters.
Yang has been supportive of Musk and the potential of a third party, which comes after Musk spent hundreds of millions to help support Trump in the 2024 presidential election.
"I want to work with people that recognize that America's political system has gone from dysfunctional to polarizing to even worse. And at this point, the fastest growing political movement in the United States is independents."
Yang highlighted that Musk has supported candidates that are both Democratic and Republican in the past and like other voters who supported Trump and the "Make America Great Again" movement, could be looking for alternatives going forward.
On Wednesday, Yang <a href="https://x.com/AndrewYang/status/1937858506704539894">tweeted </a>that &#8220;it&#8217;s a new day,&#8221; while sharing several posts about the NYC mayoral race.
While Yang or Cuomo will not necessarily run in the New York City mayoral race, a broader field of independent candidates could split the vote, making this one of the most consequential tests of whether a third party can win a major race.
Current odds on prediction market <a href="https://polymarket.com/event/new-york-city-mayoral-election">Polymarket </a>show Mamdani as the favorite to win the November election at 73.1%, followed by Adams at 22.0%. Cuomo is listed with a current 2.9% chance, but that comes without him declaring an Independent run. Yang is listed with less than a 1% chance of winning, without publicly entering the race.
Another Polymarket prediction market is for whether Cuomo will run as a non-Democrat in the general election, with yes getting 34% of the vote.
On <a href="https://kalshi.com/?live=new-york-city-mayor-election">Kalshi</a>, Mamdani is the favorite at 73%, followed by Adams and 24% and Cuomo at 5%. Yang is not currently listed.

Biogen Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BIIB#NASDAQ">BIIB</a>) on Wednesday announced<a href="https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2025/06/25/3104985/0/en/Biogen-to-Advance-Investigational-Spinal-Muscular-Atrophy-Asset-to-Registrational-Studies-Based-on-Positive-Interim-Phase-1-Results.html"> in</a> a press release the topline results from the Phase 1 study of salanersen (BIIB115/ION306), an antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) being developed for <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/biotech" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">spinal muscular atrophy (SMA)</a>.
Biogen licensed the global development, manufacturing and commercialization rights for salanersen from Ionis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/IONS#NASDAQ">IONS</a>). Salanersen was discovered by Ionis.
Leveraging the same mechanism of action as Spinraza (nusinersen) but designed to achieve greater potency, salanersen can achieve high efficacy and enable once-a-year dose.

An interim analysis of the phase one study in participants with SMA who were previously treated with Novartis AG&#8217;s (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVS#NYSE">NVS</a>) gene therapy, Zolgensma (onasemnogene abeparvovec), was conducted to inform the decision on whether to move salanersen forward <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/06/g46091748/biogen-to-advance-investigational-spinal-muscular-atrophy-asset-to-registrational-studies-based-on" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">into registrational studies</a>.
Both dose levels tested, 40 mg and 80 mg, given once a year, were generally well-tolerated and led to substantial slowing of neurodegeneration, as shown by reductions in neurofilament.
Exploratory clinical outcome data show clinically meaningful improvements in function and attainment of new World Health Organization (WHO) milestones over one year.
Interim results are from part B (n=24) in individuals who received either 40 mg or 80 mg salanersen once a year.
In participants with elevated baseline concentrations of neurofilament light chain (NfL), indicating ongoing neurodegeneration, initiation of salanersen led to mean reductions in NfL of 70% at six months, which were sustained through the one-year dosing interval.
Exploratory clinical outcome data were evaluated for the subgroup of participants with at least one year of follow-up during the interim analysis (n=8 participants aged 2-12 who received 40 mg of salanersen). Half (four out of eight) of these participants achieved new WHO motor milestones they could not previously achieve on their own or required assistance, such as walking, crawling, standing or sitting.
Furthermore, these participants experienced clinically meaningful improvements in motor function from baseline to one year, including a 3.3-point (SD 4.46) mean improvement from baseline on the Hammersmith Functional Motor Scale – Expanded (HFMSE) and a 5.3 point (SD 4.75) improvement on the Revised Upper Limb Module (RULM).
Biogen is currently engaging with global health authorities regarding the design of the phase 3 studies.
Earlier in June, Biogen initiated dosing in the BRAVE phase 3 study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of omaveloxolone in children with Friedreich ataxia (FA) between <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/06/g45992415/biogen-initiates-phase-3-pediatric-study-of-omaveloxolone-for-the-treatment-of-friedreich-ataxia" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">the ages of 2 to &lt;16</a>.
Both non-ambulatory and ambulatory participants may qualify for the study.
Currently, omaveloxolone is commercialized under the brand name Skyclarys in over 40 countries, including the U.S. and the European Union, and is the only approved product for FA in adults and adolescents aged 16 years and older.

Biogen-Ionis Partnered Drug Shows Benefit In Children With Spinal Muscular Atrophy Previously Treated With Novartis' Zolgensma

Although glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) agonists have shown promising results in reducing weight and cardiovascular risks, new data reveals that many U.S. adults struggle to stay on <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/weight-loss" rel="noreferrer noopener">long-term treatment</a>.
While newer obesity-indicated GLP-1 therapies, such as semaglutide and tirzepatide, are increasingly used, poor persistence rates threaten the clinical and economic benefits of these medications.
Novo Nordisk A/S' (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVO#NYSE">NVO</a>) semaglutide is the main input in Ozempic and Wegovy, and tirzepatide is a key ingredient in Eli Lilly &amp; Co's (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LLY#NYSE">LLY</a>) Mounjaro and Zepbound.

GLP-1 agonists have been linked to 10% to 20% weight loss in clinical trials, with some studies also showing reduced cardiovascular events in individuals without diabetes.
Yet, despite these benefits, long-term adherence remains a major hurdle. A 2023 real-world study by Prime Therapeutics found that just 27% of users remained adherent for one year, and only 15% persisted for two years. At three years, only 8.1% of users were still on treatment.
Even the best-performing drug, Wegovy, had a three-year persistence rate of just 14.3%.
The three-year analysis included 5,780 individuals continuously enrolled in a health plan after initiating GLP-1 treatment for obesity.
The group had a mean age of 46.7 years, and nearly 80% were women. Persistence rates varied widely by medication, from 14.3% with weekly semaglutide (Wegovy) to 2.5% with daily liraglutide (Victoza).
Over three years, only 12.5% of users met the standard for adherence based on medication possession, and more than one-third switched to a different GLP-1 therapy.
However, more recent <a target="_blank" href="https://www.primetherapeutics.com/w/prime-therapeutics-leading-research-shows-only-1-in-12-remain-on-a-glp-1-drug-for-obesity-at-three-years" rel="noreferrer noopener">data</a> suggests that persistence may be improving. In a separate year-over-year analysis involving 23,025 individuals initiating high-potency GLP-1s—Wegovy and Zepbound—one-year persistence rose from 33.2% in 2021 to 62.7% in 2024.
Tirzepatide (Zepbound), introduced in late 2023, had one-year persistence rates of over 62% in both 2023 and 2024.
This trend toward better short-term adherence is attributed to reduced supply shortages, improved dose escalation strategies, better side-effect management, and support programs.
Nonetheless, experts <a target="_blank" href="https://www.primetherapeutics.com/documents/d/primetherapeutics/prime-therapeutics_glp-1-therapy-to-treat-obesity-among-members-without-diabetes_three-year-persistence" rel="noreferrer noopener">caution</a> that poor long-term persistence among early adopters signals potential investment risk and limits the therapies' full clinical impact.
Further research is needed to understand why so many users discontinue treatment and whether newer approaches can sustain adherence over the long term.

What Happened: According to new <a href="https://x.com/santimentfeed/status/1937569460896092327">data</a> from Santiment, 94.5% of Bitcoin's circulating supply is currently in profit, followed by Ethereum at 88.7%, reflecting strong investor conviction. 
XRP (65.1%), Dogecoin at 64.7%, and Chainlink (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/link/usd">LINK</a>) at 59.4% also show solid profitability, though these levels suggest a more balanced sentiment between caution and optimism.
Cardano (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/ada/usd">ADA</a>), however, lags with only 46.5% of its supply in profit, indicating that a majority of holders are underwater. 
While this signals bearish sentiment among investors who bought near previous highs, it could also represent a potential value opportunity if bullish momentum returns in the second half of 2025. 
This implies undervaluation and more of a bearish sentiment from jaded investors who bought at a higher price than where ADA sits currently.

Santiment <a href="https://x.com/santimentfeed/status/1937892738684576217">observed</a> that Bitcoin has recently climbed back to $108,200, buoyed by positive reaction to the ceasefire between Israel and Iran, which remains intact.
Meanwhile, Chainlink's 11% surge today <a href="https://x.com/santimentfeed/status/1937601918819336673">came</a> as the number of LINK holders hit a record 769,380. 
Despite this, active wallets over the past year are down 17.3%, signalling a shift toward long-term accumulation.
Ethereum's outlook also remains optimistic, with trader Ted Pillows <a href="https://x.com/TedPillows/status/1937829374134247475">noting </a>that whales are positioning long, suggesting bullish expectations into year-end.

Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP Holders Sitting On Profits, While Dogecoin Trails: Report

Shares of Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMD#NASDAQ">AMD</a>) are trading higher Wednesday, adding to gains of more than 25% over the past month. Here&#8217;s a look at <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/trading-ideas/movers/25/06/46080942/why-amd-stock-is-soaring-tuesday">what&#8217;s going on</a>.
What To Know: AMD shares are rallying this week after the chipmaker announced a new collaboration with HCLTech aimed at accelerating enterprise digital transformation. The two companies plan to establish joint innovation labs focused on developing solutions in AI, digital infrastructure and cloud computing.
AMD CEO Lisa Su said the partnership will help deliver cutting-edge technology to give businesses the solutions they need to accelerate innovation.

Semiconductor stocks have seen strong momentum in recent trading sessions following easing tensions in the Middle East. AMD also got a boost this week after Melius Research analyst Ben Reitzes upgraded AMD from Hold to Buy and raised the price target from $110 to $175, reflecting growing confidence in the company&#8217;s positioning in the AI and enterprise computing space.
Earlier this month, multiple analysts came out with <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/trading-ideas/movers/25/06/45955190/amd-stock-is-soaring-monday-whats-going-on">positive updates</a> after AMD unveiled multiple new products at its "Advancing AI"  event. Piper Sandler raised its target to $140 and reiterated an Overweight rating. Roth Capital and Evercore ISI also lifted their targets to $150 and $144, respectively, while Rosenblatt recently maintained a Buy rating with a $200 target.
Is AMD A Good Stock To Buy?
Wall Street analysts view AMD on the whole as a Outperform, given the history of coverage over the past three months.

In the past three months, AMD rose 35.59%, which indicates that opinion improved on the business and how attractive it is to own based on either its stock price, or underlying fundamentals, like revenue, which rose 35.9% over the past year.

What's Going On With AMD Shares Today?

H.C. Wainwright analyst Heiko F. Ihle reiterated a Buy rating on U.S. Gold Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/USAU#NASDAQ">USAU</a>) <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/USAU/analyst-ratings" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">with a price forecast of $15</a>.
Ihle highlighted that U.S. Gold Corp. released key details on its upcoming Feasibility Study, or FS on June 24, following the updated Pre-Feasibility Study published in February 2025.
The analyst noted that the FS will include a site-specific Association for Advancement of Cost Engineering (AACE) Class 3 cost estimate and a detailed execution plan aimed at aligning with the current project timeline.

The FS is expected to be finalized by the fourth quarter, and he writes it will outline a practical and appealing path forward for the fully permitted CK Gold Project.
This apart, Ihle stated that his valuation of U.S. Gold Corp. is based on a discounted cash flow (DCF) model for the CK Gold Project, using a 15% discount rate, consistent with other early-stage mining projects in top-tier jurisdictions.
His DCF model yields a value of $206.9 million, or $11.69 per share, for the CK asset. He assigns an additional $50 million combined value for the Challis ($28 million), Keystone ($20 million), and Orevada ($2 million) projects.
Ihle also noted that these non-core asset estimates appear increasingly conservative given current spot gold prices of $3,325 per ounce.
Ihle highlighted that a recent $7.3 million cash boost from exercised warrants should support near-term operational needs as the company works toward future milestones.
