In seeking to track the performance of the index, the fund employs a replication strategy. It generally invests substantially all, but at least 95%, of its total assets in the securities comprising the index. The index includes securities of companies from the following industries: food and staples retailing; household products; food products; beverages; tobacco; and personal products. The fund is non-diversified.

<p>U.S. stocks are wavering as investors have braced themselves for potential shifts in tariff policies from President Donald Trump. Markets remain cautious as Trump prepares to unveil his universal like-for-like tariff plan, set for midweek. On Feb. 10, the President imposed 25% tariffs on all steel and aluminum imports starting March 4, intensifying pressure on top trading partners Canada and Mexico. Investors are weighing the potential impact of a trade war on corporate earnings, global growth and inflation.</p>
<p>Trump&#39;s steel tariffs could trigger a broader trade war as the EU threatens &lsquo;proportionate countermeasures. Tensions between the United States and China had already escalated after the United States implemented a 10% tariff on Chinese imports on Feb. 4. In response, China retaliated with tariffs on U.S. products, including a 15% levy on coal and liquefied natural gas (AMEX:LNG) and a 10% tariff on crude oil, agricultural machinery and automobiles from Feb. 10.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, UBS believes that the U.S. effective tariff rate on China will&nbsp;<a href="http://www.aastocks.com/en/stocks/news/aafn-news/NOW.1414645/1" target="_blank">eventually rise to 30%</a>&nbsp;from the current 11%. Investors are also worried about the Fed&#39;s policy momentum. <p>The Federal Reserve&#8217;s preferred inflation measure surged as predicted last month, quelling headwinds for the central bank&#8217;s goal of gradually reaching the 2% target, while a strong surge in personal spending continued to reiterate the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/econ-s">health of U.S. consumers.</a></p>
<p>The Personal Consumption Expenditures price index rose 2.6% in December 2024 on a year-over-year basis, according to data released Friday. This means an acceleration from the previous 2.4% but in line with economic forecasts of 2.6%, as tracked by TradingEconomics estimates.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s also the third consecutive increase in annual PCE inflation, following a low of 2.1% in September last year. On a monthly basis, the PCE price index rose 0.3%, up from 0.1% in the prior month, but in line with expectations.</p>
<p>Core PCE inflation, which excludes volatile energy and food prices, held steady at 2.8% year over year, matching forecasts. On a monthly basis, core PCE rose 0.2%, also aligning with estimates.</p>
<p>In its December macroeconomic projections, the Federal Reserve raised its 2025 inflation outlook, expecting both headline and core PCE inflation to average 2.5% in 2025.</p>
<p>Personal income increased 0.4% month over month in December, accelerating from 0.3% in November, in line with expectations.</p>
<p>&#8220;The increase in personal income in December primarily reflected an increase in compensation, led by private wages and salaries,&#8221; the Bureau of Economic Analysis wrote. </p>
<p>Personal spending spiked 0.7%, up from the previous 0.6%, beating forecasts of 0.5% and marking the strongest increase since March 2024. </p>
<p>The highest changes in monthly consumer spending occurred in housing and utilities, up by $29.8 billion, transportation services, up $25.9 billion, and gasoline and other energy goods, up $21.8 billion.  </p>
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Market Reactions</h3>
<p>The U.S. dollar index, which is tracked by the&nbsp;<strong>Invesco DB USD Index Bullish Fund ETF </strong>(NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/UUP#NYSE">UUP</a>), held broadly steady minutes after the release.</p>
<p>Treasury yields inched marginally higher,&nbsp;with the 10-year yield up by 2&nbsp;basis points to 4.54%. </p>
<p>Futures on major U.S. indices traded mostly in the green in New York premarket trading, with contracts on the S&amp;P 500 up 0.5%, although a tad lower following the PCE release. On Thursday, the <strong>SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust&nbsp;</strong>(NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>) closed 0.5% higher.</p>
<p>Sector-wise, the <strong>Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund</strong> (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XLK#NYSE">XLK</a>) led gains, up 1%, driven by a 4.2% premarket surge in<strong> Apple Inc.</strong></p>
<p>The <strong>Consumer Staples</strong>&nbsp;<strong>Select Sector SPDR Fund</strong> (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XLP#NYSE">XLP</a>) was the laggard, falling 0.5%, weighed down a 14% drop in <strong>Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc.</strong> (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/WBA#NASDAQ">WBA</a>). </p>
<p>Gold prices – tracked by the <strong>SPDR Gold Trust</strong> (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GLD#NYSE">GLD</a>) – remained steady at record highs of $2,800 per ounce, up 0.4% for the day. </p>

<p>Tech stocks attempted a rebound after Monday's devastating crash triggered by DeepSeek, as investors show interest in dip-buying <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/25/01/43261206/nvidia-broadcom-gain-over-5-as-tech-giants-rebound-after-monday-sell-off-whats-going-on">the hardest-hit names.</a></p>
<p>Shares of <strong>Nvidia Corp.</strong> (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>) climbed by over 6% after plunging 17% and erasing nearly $600 billion in market capitalization the previous day, following a series of reassuring comments suggesting that DeepSeek's development may not be as detrimental to the semiconductor giant as initially feared.</p>
<p>The Nasdaq 100 gained 1.6% after a 2.9% drop the day before, outperforming other major indices.</p>
<p>Notably, <strong>General Motors Co. </strong>(NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GM#NYSE">GM</a>) tumbled 8.5%, despite slightly beating Street expectations on earnings, as the automaker failed to provide updates on the potential impact of Trump tariffs, leaving investors in limbo.</p>
<p>The dollar strengthened after multiple overnight reports indicated that Treasury Secretary<strong> Scott Bessent</strong> is considering universal tariffs of 2.5%, with gradual increases up to 20%, allowing countries room to negotiate with President <strong>Donald Trump&#8217;s </strong>administration. Treasury yields rose about 3 basis points across the curve, reflecting slight investor nervousness and inflation concerns in the bond market.</p>

<p>A wild selloff rattled tech stocks on Monday, striking at the heart of AI optimism as China&#8217;s DeepSeek startup unveiled an open-source large language model platform that outperforms OpenAI&#8217;s ChatGPT at a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-ratings/analyst-color/25/01/43239042/magnificent-seven-broadcom-lose-nearly-900-billion-in-value-as-deepseek-sparks-ai-carnage-why-this-expert-is-still-bullish-on-us-tech">fraction of the cost. </a></p>
<p>The shockwave hit U.S. markets hard, raising fears over intensifying AI competition just as companies pour heavy investments into the new technology. </p>
<p>The elite Magnificent Seven stocks collectively shed about $600 billion in market value, with <strong>Nvidia Corp. </strong>(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>) alone erasing $450 billion, or 15% of its valuation. The AI powerhouse is on track for its worst single-day loss since March 18, 2020.</p>
<p>The Nasdaq 100 tumbled 3%, eyeing its steepest drop since Dec. 18, when hawkish comments from Fed Chair <strong>Jerome</strong> <strong>Powell</strong> rattled markets. The <strong>iShares Semiconductor ETF </strong>(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SOXX#NASDAQ">SOXX</a>) plunged over 7%, also eyeing its worst session since the pandemic-driven selloff of March 2020.</p>
<p>Chipmakers took a beating, with <strong>Broadcom Inc.</strong> (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AVGO#NASDAQ">AVGO</a>) and <strong>Marvell Technology Inc.</strong> (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MRVL#NASDAQ">MRVL</a>) both crashing 17.5%, while <strong>Micron Technology Inc.</strong> (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MU#NASDAQ">MU</a>) sank 11%.</p>
<p>As panic spread, investors sought refuge in safe-haven Treasury assets. Treasury yields slid, with the 10-year yield falling 7 basis points to a one-month low. The <strong>U.S. 10-Year Treasury Note ETF</strong> (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/UTEN#NASDAQ">UTEN</a>) rose 0.7%. </p>

The world's largest cryptocurrency lost $110 billion in market cap within hours as risk-off sentiment took hold.</p>
