In seeking to track the performance of the index, the fund employs a replication strategy. It generally invests substantially all, but at least 95%, of its total assets in the securities comprising the index. The index includes securities of companies from the following industries: food and staples retailing; household products; food products; beverages; tobacco; and personal products. The fund is non-diversified.

<p>President <strong>Donald Trump</strong> signaled that tariffs on Chinese goods could be slashed from the current 145% to 80%, though that figure remains significantly higher than pre-Liberation Day levels, prompting continued caution among market participants.</p>
<p>Equities gave back a portion of Thursday's gains as sentiment turned more defensive, while gold rebounded 1% to $3,330 per ounce, partially offsetting losses from the previous session.</p>
<p>Oil prices extended their rally, climbing further above $60 a barrel amid an improved global demand outlook, putting crude on track for its strongest weekly performance since late 2024. Natural gas followed suit, with Henry Hub futures rising 4.4%.</p>
<p>In fixed income, Treasury yields held steady, with the 10-year yield hovering around 4.37%.</p>

<p>U.S. utility stocks roared higher on Tuesday, notching fresh highs not seen since late 2024, as investors rotated toward defensive assets while Washington's trade policy <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/econ-s">outlook became increasingly muddled.</a></p>
<p>The <strong>Utilities Select Sector SPDR Fund</strong> (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XLU#NYSE">XLU</a>) climbed 1.8% during Tuesday trading, pushing the benchmark ETF to levels last seen in early December 2024. </p>
<p>That gain cemented a 6.3% year-to-date advance, more of any other S&amp;P 500 sector. It outpaced technology stocks by 15 percentage points and the consumer discretionary sector by 18 percentage points.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Utilities Take The Lead</h3>
<p>Still, the utilities sector remains one of the least crowded trades on Wall Street. Despite its 2024 outperformance, the lack of investor interest suggests an underownership of the sector.</p>
<p>In a note shared this week, Bank of America's latest Equity Client Flow Trends showed that utilities were the only sector to post outflows last week when institutional and retail clients alike bought into 10 out of 11 sectors—marking the widest sector participation in 10 months.</p>
<p>Tuesday's rally was driven in part by <strong>Constellation Energy Corp.</strong> (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CEG#NASDAQ">CEG</a>), which jumped 11.87%, brushing off weaker-than-expected first-quarter earnings thanks to an optimistic full-year forecast. <strong>Vistra Corp.</strong> (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/VST#NYSE">VST</a>) gained 4.44%, ahead of its earnings release on Wednesday, while <strong>AES Corp.</strong> (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AES#NYSE">AES</a>) added 2.49%.</p>
<p>Looking at the 2025 performance, <strong>NRG Energy Inc.</strong> (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NRG#NYSE">NRG</a>) leads the utilities sector with a 31.4% YTD gain, followed by <strong>Consolidated Edison Inc.</strong> (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ED#NYSE">ED</a>), up 25.6%, and <strong>Exelon Corp.</strong> (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/EXC#NASDAQ">EXC</a>), which has surged 24.5%.</p>
<p>Tuesday's market backdrop was shaped by fresh uncertainty surrounding U.S. trade relations. During a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister <strong>Mark Carney</strong>, President<strong> Donald Trump</strong> floated the idea of renegotiating the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) and claimed China is eager to return to the negotiating table due to its economic weakness.</p>
<p>Trump said talks with China would happen &#8220;at the right time,&#8221; adding that the U.S. was not obligated to finalize any deals.</p>
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Fed Steady For Now, But All Eyes on Powell</h3>
<p>Attention now turns to Wednesday's Federal Reserve meeting, where economists broadly expect the central bank to hold interest rates steady at the 4.25%-4.5% range.</p>
<p>There's a 97% probability that the Fed will make no changes to policy in May, according to CME Group's FedWatch Tool. </p>
<p>Yet, markets are already looking ahead to potential rate cuts. Fed futures pricing implies a 31% chance of a 25-basis-point cut in June and 78% by July. By year-end, there's an 82% chance the Fed will have delivered three rate cuts.</p>
<p>The post-decision press conference is expected to focus on Fed Chair <strong>Jerome Powell</strong>'s response to political pressure, particularly after Trump's public calls for lower rates, which have reignited concerns about the central bank's independence.</p>

Leading And Lagging Sectors For May 5, 2025

<p>The U.S. stock market staged a stunning one-month rebound, fully erasing the losses triggered by <strong>Donald Trump</strong>&#8216;s <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/donald-trump">April 2 tariff announcements.</a></p>
<p>From its April low of 4,835 points, the S&amp;P 500—tracked by the <strong>SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust </strong>(NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>)—has surged 17.5%, logging nine consecutive sessions of gains through Friday, the longest winning streak since May 2024.</p>
<p>Still, the rally has been far from uniform across sectors.</p>
<p>The sectoral rebound since April has been powerful, but only a handful of sectors have managed to fully recover to or exceed their April 2 levels, before Trump&#8217;s tariff announcements triggered a broad selloff.</p>
<p><strong>Technology</strong> led the charge, surging 25.9% since the April low and now stands 3.8% above its April 2 level, the strongest full recovery among all major sectors.</p>
<p><strong>Industrials </strong>and <strong>Utilities </strong>also climbed 1.8% and 1% above their early-April levels, respectively.</p>
<p>Sectors like <strong>Consumer Discretionary </strong>, <strong>Communication Services</strong>, <strong>Financials</strong>, <strong>Consumer Staples</strong>, and <strong>Real Estate </strong>posted strong double-digit rebounds off April lows—ranging from 8.3% to 18.9%— finally reaching April 2 levels without breaching them.</p>
<p>On the other end of the spectrum, <strong>Energy</strong> remains 13.4% below its April 2 level, making it the worst laggard. <strong>Health Care </strong>is still down 4% from early April, even after recovering 7.2%. <strong>Materials</strong> also underperformed, ending the period 1.9% below its pre-tariff announcement level.</p>

Wall Street Roars Back From April Tariff Sell-Off: Which Sectors Are Still Underwater?

<p>U.S. stocks advanced across the board by midday Friday, with the S&amp;P 500 eyeing its ninth consecutive day of gains—poised for the longest winning <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets">streak since May 2024.</a></p>
<p>Risk appetite remained firm, underpinned by solid corporate earnings and a stronger-than-expected April jobs report. Nonfarm payrolls rose by 177,000, beating expectations of 130,000 and easing concerns over tariff-related hiring slowdowns.</p>
<p>All eleven S&amp;P 500 sectors traded in positive territory, led slightly by financials over technology. Major indexes have now fully recovered from the declines sparked on April 2, when President <strong>Donald Trump</strong> announced sweeping tariffs across trading partners.</p>
<p>The Nasdaq 100 climbed to levels last seen in late March, capping a strong week for tech stocks. Among the Magnificent Seven, all were on pace to close the week higher except <strong>Apple Inc</strong>. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>), which slipped 4% as strong earnings were overshadowed by weaker sales in China.</p>
<p>The U.S. dollar index resumed its decline, pressured by renewed calls from President Trump for the Federal Reserve to lower interest rates ahead of next week's policy meeting.</p>
<p>Treasury yields surged following the upbeat jobs data, with the 10-year note jumping 10 basis points to 4.31%, easing recession concerns entering the second quarter.</p>
<p>In commodities, oil prices fell back to $58 per barrel despite Thursday's rally on heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Gold rebounded 0.5%, set to snap a three-day losing streak, while natural gas prices jumped 4.4% to a two-week high.</p>
<p><strong>Bitcoin</strong> (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) edged up 1% to $97,500, marking its fourth straight week of gains.</p>

Leading And Lagging Sectors For April 28, 2025

<p>The world&#8217;s largest exchange-traded fund tracking the <strong>Nasdaq 100 index</strong> is on track for its worst week of outflows since November 2024, highlighting growing investor unease about the sustainability of the tech sector&#8217;s rebound from <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/tariffs">the tariff-led selloff.</a></p>
<p><strong>The Invesco QQQ Trust, Series 1 </strong>(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/QQQ#NASDAQ">QQQ</a>) lost $3.97 billion over the first four days of the week, according to TradingView data, with Friday's flows yet to be reported. This marks potentially the worst weekly outflows in six months. </p>
<p>Notably, this exodus occurs even as the Nasdaq 100 posted a robust weekly performance, soaring over 6%.</p>
<p>The <strong>VanEck Semiconductor ETF </strong>(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SMH#NASDAQ">SMH</a>) suffered outflows for $1.4 billion over the week, the worst since July 2024. </p>
<p>Similarly, the<strong> iShares Semiconductor ETF</strong> (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SOXX#NASDAQ">SOXX</a>) recorded $347 million in outflows this week, heading toward its worst weekly outflow since December 2024. This drain comes even as chipmaker stocks surged 11% over the same period, the strongest weekly gains since November 2022. </p>
<p>Pressure is also being felt at the top of the tech elite: The <strong>Roundhill Magnificent Seven ETF</strong> (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MAGS#NYSE">MAGS</a>) registered outflows for the second consecutive week.</p>
<h1 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Investors Are Rotating Out Of Tech Into Blue-Chip Stocks</strong></h1>
<p>Instead of an outright exit from risk assets, the flows suggest a sector rotation as investors appear to be moving from tech stocks into more traditional blue-chip names.</p>
<p>The <strong>SPDR Dow Jones Industrial Average ETF</strong> (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DIA#NYSE">DIA</a>) recorded its largest single-day inflow since August 2020 on Monday, with $1.6 billion of fresh capital. </p>
<p>By the week&#8217;s end, ETF pulled in $1.53 billion overall, eyeing the strongest weekly inflow in nearly five years.</p>
<h1 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Sector Fund Flows: Winners and Losers</strong></h1>
<ul>
<li>The <strong>Communication Services Select Sector SPDR Fund</strong> (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XLC#NYSE">XLC</a>) gathered $124 million, poised for its third consecutive week of inflows.</li>
<li>The <strong>Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund</strong> (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XLP#NYSE">XLP</a>) attracted $7 million in new capital, halting a two-week streak of outflows.</li>
<li>The <strong>Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund</strong> (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XLE#NYSE">XLE</a>) extended its painful trend, losing $717 million, marking the sixth consecutive week of outflows.</li>
<li>The <strong>Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund</strong> (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XLY#NYSE">XLY</a>) saw an $84 million influx, posting its second straight week of gains.</li>
<li>The <strong>Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund</strong> (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XLF#NYSE">XLF</a>) experienced significant outflows totaling $666 million.</li>
<li>The <strong>Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund</strong> (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XLV#NYSE">XLV</a>) registered $40 million in outflows.</li>
