Consolidated GMS declined 6.5% to $2.8 billion. Adj EPS of 46 cents <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/earnings">missed the consensus </a>estimate of 49 cents.
Etsy marketplace GMS decreased 8.9% to&nbsp;$2.3 billion, a result of pressure on consumer discretionary product spending, challenging year-over-year comparisons in a shortened holiday season, category mix, and a highly promotional and competitive retail environment.

Adjusted EBITDA improved 1.9% to $171.1 million and the corresponding EBITDA margin expanded 30 basis points to 26.3%.
As of March 31, the company held $649.1 million in cash and equivalents. Operating cash flow for the quarter totaled $49.18 million.
&#8220;We are keeping a clear eye on&nbsp;Etsy&#8217;s&nbsp;long-term opportunities, while also staying nimble in the face of uncertainty given recent tariff announcements and the fluid state of consumer confidence in our core markets,&#8221; said CFO Lanny&nbsp;Baker.
Outlook:&nbsp;Etsy expects second-quarter FY25 GMS to decline at a rate similar to, to potentially lightly better than the year-over-year&nbsp;performance reported for the fourth quarter of FY24.
The company expects second quarter adjusted EBITDA margin of about 25%.

Britain's GSK Asserts It Is 'Well Positioned' To Mitigate Potential Tariffs After Strong Q1 Cancer And HIV Drug Sales

Wall Street is set for a volatile Wednesday after first-quarter GDP data showed an unexpected economic contraction, stoking fears that a recession <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/macro-economic-events/25/04/45098824/tariffs-hit-hard-as-us-economy-shrinks-for-first-time-since-2022">may already be underway. </a>
The U.S. economy shrank by 0.3% on an annualized basis last quarter, down from 2.4% growth in the previous quarter and well below the expected 0.4% growth, official advance statistics showed.
The outcome marked the first quarterly contraction since the second quarter of 2022. 
In addition, U.S. private employers added 62,000 jobs in April, according to ADP National Employment Report, the lowest since July 2024 and well below predictions of 108,000. 
Broad-based equity losses followed during premarket trading in New York as investors digested signs of weakening growth, elevated inflation, and deteriorating trade balances.
Futures on the S&amp;P 500 fell 1.28% to 5,489.61 by 9:00 a.m. ET, shedding 71 points.

Economist Joseph Brusuelas of RSM US LLP offered a more tempered view: "The trade shock caused a large change in behavior that resulted in that large drag due to a larger trade deficit. However, the economy did not slide into recession in Q1 2025." 
He expects a recession more likely by midyear, citing a $140 billion inventory swing that temporarily padded GDP by 2.25 percentage points.
Robin Brooks, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, echoed concerns about the unusual nature of the trade dynamics, calling the current environment "a huge natural experiment," with ballooning imports and swelling inventories reflecting a widespread effort to front-run tariffs.

Elon Musk's xAI is under fire in Memphis for deploying several methane gas turbines allegedly without permits at its <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/06/39199007/elon-musks-xai-to-take-on-tech-giants-microsoft-google-and-openai-with-planned-memphis-supercomputer">supercomputer site</a>. With growing public concern about air pollution and a lack of transparency about the operations, a crucial health department hearing is set to take place this Friday.
What Happened: xAI set up operations at a former Electrolux factory in southwest Memphis last summer to power its "Colossus" supercomputer with portable methane turbines. According<a href="https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2025/apr/24/elon-musk-xai-memphis"> to</a> the Guardian, the Southern Environmental Law Center recently shared that 35 turbines were brought in, but without air permits. 
Thermal images now reveal that 33 of them are running, even though Mayor Paul Young claimed that only 15 are active, the report said.
xAI's AI chatbot Grok is fueled by these turbines, and Musk has already <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/tech/25/03/44208284/elon-musks-xai-acquires-1-million-square-foot-property-in-memphis-for-supercomputer-expansion">purchased another 1 million sq ft site</a> to expand their operations.
xAI did not immediately respond to <a href="http://pro.benzinga.com">Benzinga&#8217;s</a> request for comment.

Why It Matters: The facility is situated in a historically Black area already impacted by industrial pollution and rising rates of cancer and asthma. State Rep. Justin Pearson, speaking <a href="https://www.democracynow.org/2025/4/25/elon_musk_xai_memphis_tennessee">to</a> Democracy Now, said: "We're talking about 17.2 tons of formaldehyde being released into our air, over 130 tons of nitrogen oxide—making them a bigger polluter than the Memphis International Airport. Elected officials have a responsibility to the people—not to billionaires misusing their power." Keshan Pearson, executive director of Memphis Community Against Pollution, called the project a "human rights violation."
Meanwhile, thousands of residents received fliers from a group called "Facts Over Fiction," claiming that the turbines are low-emission and EPA-regulated. However, the Guardian reports that neither the EPA nor the local health department has issued permits.
Mayor Paul Young has suggested funneling tax revenue from xAI to fund local projects, but critics like Pearson argue that this doesn't make up for the immense health impact.
Earlier, Musk's company <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/25/04/44725803/musks-xai-aims-for-1-million-gpus-in-memphis-but-can-the-citys-grid-handle-a-27b-ai-power-surge">requested 300 megawatts from Memphis Light, Gas and Water</a>, raising questions about the city&#8217;s ability to supply these huge amounts of power without compromising operations.

XPO Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XPO#NYSE">XPO</a>) reported first-quarter financial results before the market open on Wednesday. &#8220;We carried our momentum into 2025 and delivered&nbsp;first quarter&nbsp;financial results that outperformed the industry. Companywide, we reported adjusted EBITDA of&nbsp;$278 million&nbsp;and adjusted diluted EPS of&nbsp;$0.73, while operating more efficiently,&#8221; said Mario Harik, CEO of XPO.
&#8220;Our plan is driving results, with a long runway for margin expansion, supported by superior service and high-return investments in our network. We&#8217;re executing to achieve years of outperformance, regardless of the freight market environment.&#8221;
XPO executives are currently discussing the quarter on a conference call that kicked off at 8:30 a.m. ET.
