Tyson Foods is a protein-focused food producer, selling raw chicken, beef, pork, and prepared foods. Chicken and beef are its two largest segments, each composing about one third of US sales. Prepared foods constituted 18% of fiscal 2024 sales and include brands like Tyson, Jimmy Dean, Hillshire Farm, Ball Park, and Sara Lee. However, most of these are in product categories rife with competition where Tyson does not have a massive market share lead. Tyson sells some products overseas, but the international segment accounts for just 4% of total revenue. The company is an active acquirer, with more recent years' purchases focused on international and food-service markets.

BofA Securities analyst Jeffrey Spector downgraded Lineage Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LINE#NASDAQ">LINE</a>) to Neutral from Buy on Tuesday and lowered the price forecast <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/LINE/analyst-ratings" rel="noreferrer noopener">from $70.00 to $49.00</a>.
The analyst downgraded LINE and lowered the price target, citing reduced visibility driven by persistent revenue growth challenges, halted supply chain investments, and downward earnings revisions.
Spector noted that producers are delaying key decisions on expansions, plant locations, and transportation sourcing due to macroeconomic uncertainty driven by tariffs.
Lineage reported first-quarter 2025 EPS of $0.01, exceeding analyst expectations of a $ 0.05 loss, and posted revenue of $1.29 billion, which fell short of the $1.34 billion consensus estimate.
The Company <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/04/b45093641/lineage-inc-announces-first-quarter-2025-financial-results-and-landmark-agreements-with-long-term-" rel="noreferrer noopener">maintains its full-year 2025</a> outlook, projecting adjusted EBITDA between $1.35 billion and $1.40 billion, and adjusted FFO per share in the range of $3.40 to $3.60.
The analyst stated that Lineage reported Q1 AFFO of $0.86, surpassing both their $0.80 estimate and the $0.85 consensus. However, revenue declined 4.2% compared to their projected 2.1% growth, driven by lower occupancy, reduced throughput volumes, and softer pricing in both storage and services.
Spector added that the 2025 AFFO guidance was upheld, partly due to recent acquisitions, including the Tyson Foods (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSN#NYSE">TSN</a>) <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/04/b45093569/lineage-inc-announces-plans-to-expand-its-u-s-cold-storage-network-with-long-time-customer" rel="noreferrer noopener">deal</a>.
The analyst lowered the 2025 occupancy growth forecast to -1.7% from -0.6% and reduced 2025 throughput volume growth to -1.6% from +1.5%. 2026 occupancy growth remains flat, with throughput growth revised down to +0.3% from +1.5%.

Lineage Stock Forecast Slashed By 30% - Here's Why

Tyson Foods Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSN#NYSE">TSN</a>) shares continue to slide lower on Tuesday. This comes after yesterday's decline of more than 7%. Earnings came in at 92 cents, which was slightly ahead of estimates. But the $13.07 billion of revenue was lower than the $13.14 billion analysts were looking for.
Despite today's move, there is a good chance that it could reverse and head higher. This is why we have made it our Stock of the Day.
Sometimes, technical market dynamics can be more important than the fundamental news that has been reported. For example, as you can see on the chart, despite yesterday's news and panic sellers, the stock found a bottom right around $54.25.
It wasn't a coincidence there was support around this level. Levels that had previously been bottoms can become so again if a stock drops back to them.
This happens because of people who sold their shares when it was at support. A number of them regretted their decision to sell when the price rallied afterward. Some of them decided that if and when it was eventually possible, they would buy their shares back if they could do so at their selling price.

So when Tyson fell back to around $54.25 in January 2025, remorseful sellers from July 2024 came into the market as buyers. The large number of these orders they placed caused support at the same price.
A similar thing just occurred. On Monday, the low trade was right around this price, and the last two times the stock found this support, a rally followed.
Stocks tend to rally after they drop to support. This occurs when the traders and investors who created the support with their buy orders become aggressive.
They are concerned that others who wish to purchase shares will be willing to pay higher prices than they are. They know that if this happens, the sellers will go to them.
These concerned buyers don't want to miss their trades, so they increase the prices they are willing to pay. Other concerned buyers see this and do the same.
This can result in a bidding war that could force the price higher. It happened the past two times with Tyson at this support. It may be about to happen again.

U.S. stock futures fell on Tuesday after snapping a nine-day winning streak on the S&amp;P 500 index. Futures of major benchmark indices were lower in premarket.
After a remarkable 20-year high winning streak, the S&amp;P 500 saw stocks decline on Monday. This reversal was triggered by two key statements from President Donald Trump: his proposal for a 100% tariff on <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/entertainment/25/05/45201601/trump-wants-movies-made-in-america-again-heres-what-tariffs-on-films-could-mean-for-disney-netflix-stock">foreign-made films</a> and his announcement that he would not be discussing trade with Chinese President Xi Jinping this week. 
Investors are keeping an eye on the Federal Reserve&#8217;s decision on interest rates, which is slated to be announced on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the 10-year Treasury bond yielded 4.36% and the two-year bond was at 3.81%. The CME Group's FedWatch <a href="https://www.cmegroup.com/markets/interest-rates/cme-fedwatch-tool.html">tool</a>&#8216;s projections show markets pricing a 96.8% likelihood of the Federal Reserve keeping the current interest rates unchanged in its May meeting.

The SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>) and Invesco QQQ Trust ETF (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/QQQ#NASDAQ">QQQ</a>), which track the S&amp;P 500 index and Nasdaq 100 index, respectively, fell in premarket on Tuesday. The SPY was down 0.82% to $558.89, while the QQQ declined 1.12% to $480.49, according to <a href="https://pro.benzinga.com/dashboard">Benzinga Pro</a> data.
Cues From Last Session:
Energy, consumer discretionary, and information technology sectors led Monday&#8217;s decline on the S&amp;P 500, contributing to the index snapping a nine-session winning streak.
Bucking this trend, consumer staples stocks closed slightly higher.
The S&amp;P 500 rose by 2.9%, the Dow by 3%, and the Nasdaq by 3.4% for the week.
In company news, Skechers U.S.A. Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SKX#NYSE">SKX</a>) saw its shares surge over 24% following an acquisition agreement by 3G Capital at $63 per share, while Tyson Foods Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSN#NYSE">TSN</a>) <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/25/05/45198250/tyson-shares-drop-after-mixed-quarter-with-weak-sales-solid-profit">shares fell </a>around 8% after disappointing second-quarter sales.
On the economic front, the ISM services PMI exceeded expectations, rising to 51.6 in April from March&#8217;s 50.8.
The Dow Jones index declined 99 points or 0.24% to 41,218.83, whereas the S&amp;P 500 index fell 0.64% to 5,650.38. Nasdaq Composite ended 0.74% lower at 17,844.24, and the small-cap gauge, Russell 2000, tumbled 0.82% to 2,004.26.

WisdomTree senior economist Jeremy Siegel highlights the positive impact of the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/05/45213790/us-dollar-depreciation-is-cushioning-the-impact-of-tariffs-on-corporate-profits-says-expert-heres-how">U.S. dollar&#8217;s decline</a> on multinational earnings this year.
In his weekly commentary, he points out that roughly half of the S&amp;P 500&#8217;s revenue is generated internationally, a factor he believes can mitigate the adverse effects of tariffs on corporate profits.
As Siegel states, "With 40-45% of S&amp;P 500 revenues sourced abroad, that currency translation effect alone could cushion the impact of tariffs on corporate profits."
He further suggests that, "This, alongside hopes of deal-making and eventual tariff de-escalation, is underpinning the market&#8217;s recovery."
Moreover, Siegel remains optimistic about stocks, explaining that markets often overreact to recessions.
He argues, "While earnings may drop if the economy turns south, the long-horizon value of equities should not fall 20–25%, as often happens. If investors finally look beyond the valley into the mountain, the downside could be limited even in a mild recession."
As the Federal Reserve is projected to keep the interest rates steady after the Wednesday&#8217;s meeting, Cooper Howard, director, fixed income strategy at the Schwab Center for Financial Research said, &#8220;The market&#8217;s pricing in between three and four cuts prior to the year-end, but that's aggressive unless the labor market shows further signs of slowing.&#8221;

US Stocks Likely To Open Lower After Snapping 9-Day Streak: 'Downside Could Be Limited Even In A Mild Recession,' Says Expert

The CNN Money Fear and Greed index showed further improvement in the overall market sentiment, while the index moved to the &#8220;Greed&#8221; zone on Monday.
U.S. stocks settled lower on Monday, with the S&amp;P 500 snapping a nine-session winning streak.
All three major averages recorded gains for the second week, with the S&amp;P 500 adding 2.9% and the Dow gaining 3% on the week. The Nasdaq, meanwhile, closed higher by 3.4% for the week.
Shares of Skechers U.S.A., Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SKX#NYSE">SKX</a>) jumped over 24% on Monday after the company agreed to be acquired by 3G Capital for $63 per share. Tyson Foods, Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSN#NYSE">TSN</a>) shares fell around 8% after the company reported worse-than-expected second-quarter sales results.
On the economic data front, the ISM services PMI rose to 51.6 in April versus a nine-month low level of 50.8 in the previous month March and topping market estimates of 50.6.
Most sectors on the S&amp;P 500 closed on a negative note, with energy, consumer discretionary and information technology stocks recording biggest losses on Monday. However, consumer staples stocks bucked the overall market trend, closing the session slightly higher.
The Dow Jones closed lower by around 99 points to 41,218.83 on Monday. The S&amp;P 500 fell 0.64% to 5,650.38, while the Nasdaq Composite fell 0.74% at 17,844.24 during Monday's session.
Investors are awaiting earnings results from Marriott International, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MAR#NASDAQ">MAR</a>), Archer-Daniels-Midland Company (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ADM#NYSE">ADM</a>) and Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMD#NASDAQ">AMD</a>) today.
At a current reading of 56.4, the index moved to the &#8220;Greed&#8221; zone on Monday, versus a prior reading of 54.4.

The Fear &amp; Greed Index is a measure of the current market sentiment. It is based on the premise that higher fear exerts pressure on stock prices, while higher greed has the opposite effect. The index is calculated based on seven equal-weighted indicators. The index ranges from 0 to 100, where 0 represents maximum fear and 100 signals maximum greediness.

S&P 500 Snaps Nine-Session Winning Streak; Investor Sentiment Improves, Fear & Greed Index Moves To 'Greed' Zone

Wall Street kicked off the week with a cautious tone, as major stock indices hovered near the flatline by midday in New York. Investors digested fresh signs of inflationary pressure in the services sector, raising doubts about near-term rate cuts and <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets">weighing on risk appetite.</a>
The ISM Services PMI for April pointed to only marginal growth, the slowest since late 2023, while the index for prices paid surged to its highest reading in more than two years, reflecting a sharp rise in input costs amid renewed trade disruptions tied to tariffs announced last month by President Donald Trump.
The S&amp;P 500 slipped 0.2% to 5,670, while the Nasdaq 100 matched the decline to 20,050. The Dow Jones Industrial Average, however, managed a modest 0.2% gain. If the S&amp;P 500 closes higher, it would mark its tenth consecutive session of gains, the longest winning streak since September 1995.
Rising bond yields pressured equities, with the 10-year Treasury yield climbing 4 basis points to 4.35%, and the 30-year yield up at 4.83%.
Speaking at the Milken Institute, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the U.S. was nearing agreements on new trade deals, potentially as soon as this week. He indicated that 17 trading partners, excluding China, had presented strong proposals, and suggested that meaningful progress with China could also emerge in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, oil prices dropped 2% to $57 a barrel following OPEC+'s signal of a 411,000 bpd production hike starting in June, with further increases possible over the summer.
Gold rallied 2%, on track for its strongest session in two weeks, while Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) held steady near $94,000.

Stocks Pause Gains As Treasury Yields Rise: What's Driving Markets Monday?

The U.S. services sector grew at its slowest pace in over 17 months in April, while inflationary pressures surged to an over two-year high, highlighting a troubling combination of weakening demand and rising costs fueled by trade tariff disruptions that could complicate the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/federal-reserve">Federal Reserve's path forward.</a>
According to data released Monday by the Institute for Supply Management (ISM), the Services Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) edged up from 50.8% in March to 51.6% in April, slightly above economists&#8217; expectations of 50.6. While this reading suggests continued growth, it&#8217;s the slowest expansion in activity since late 2023.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Pricing Pressures Intensify Despite Tepid Growth</h3>
ISM's subindex for prices paid, a key inflation gauge, jumped sharply from 60.9% in March to 65.1% in April, reaching the highest level since February 2023. 
This spike reflects intensifying cost pressures across the service economy, driven partly by rising import prices and the pass-through effects of tariffs.
&#8220;Regarding tariffs, respondents cited actual pricing impacts as concerns, more so than uncertainty and future pressures," said Steve Miller, chair of ISM's Services Business Survey Committee.
 "Respondents continue to mention federal agency budget cuts as a drag on business, but overall, results are improving."
The index for new orders rose from 50.4% to 52.3%, while the employment component climbed from 46.2% to 49% — still signaling contraction, but a less severe one.
 Business activity, however, moderated from 55.9 to 53.7, its softest growth pace since January, though it still marked the 59th consecutive month of expansion.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">S&amp;P Global Flags Stalling Momentum, Stagflation Risks</h3>
S&amp;P Global&#8217;s separate reading on the U.S. services sector painted a less optimistic picture. 
The firm downwardly revised its final Services PMI for April from a preliminary estimates of 51.4 points to 50.8 points, a steep decline from March&#8217;s 54.4 and the lowest since November 2022.
"While tariff announcements mean manufacturing dominates the news, a worrying backstory is developing in the vastly larger services economy," said Chris Williamson, chief business economist at S&amp;P Global. 
"Business activity and hiring have come closer to stalling in April amid plunging business confidence."
Williamson indicated that services exports are falling at their fastest rate since 2022, while domestic demand appears to be softening. 
He added that tariffs are pushing up input costs, especially in consumer-facing sectors like restaurants and hospitality, and warned of the growing threat of stagflation, a toxic mix of stagnant growth and rising inflation.
S&amp;P Global's Composite PMI, which blends manufacturing and services activity to gauge overall private-sector performance, was also revised down from 51.2 to 50.6 in April. 
That marked the weakest expansion since December 2023 and brought the index dangerously close to the 50 threshold that separates growth from contraction.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Market Reactions</h3>
Stocks remained broadly unaltered following the PMI releases. 
The S&amp;P 500 index held losses of 0.5%, trading at 5,655 points by 10:20 a.m. ET, potentially ending a 9-day winning streak. The Nasdaq 100 — as tracked by the Invesco QQQ Trust, Series 1 (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/QQQ#NASDAQ">QQQ</a>) — slipped 0.7%, dipping below the 20,000 mark, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average trimmed earlier losses to trade down 0.2%.
Within the S&amp;P 500, United Airlines Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/UAL#NASDAQ">UAL</a>), Delta Air Lines Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DAL#NYSE">DAL</a>) and EQT Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/EQT#NYSE">EQT</a>) were top gainers, each up around 3%. 
On the downside, Zimmer Biomet Holdings Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ZBH#NYSE">ZBH</a>), Tyson Foods Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSN#NYSE">TSN</a>) and ON Semiconductor Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ON#NASDAQ">ON</a>) were among the steepest losers, all sliding roughly 9% on the session.
The U.S. dollar index – as tracked by the Invesco DB USD Index Bullish Fund ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/UUP#NYSE">UUP</a>) – trimmed losses after the PMI reports, as higher price pressures led traders to scale back bets on Federal Reserve rate cuts. Meanwhile, the 10-year Treasury yield rose by 4 basis points to 4.35%.
According to CME Group FedWatch, now there is only a 29% chance of a 25-basis-point cut by June, down from 35% on Friday.

Services Activity Barely Expands In April As Price Pressures Spike To Over 2-Year Highs: 'A Worrying Backstory Is Developing'

Shares of Tyson Foods Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSN#NYSE">TSN</a>) are trading lower on Monday after the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/earnings">second-quarter FY25 earnings.</a>
The company reported <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/05/g45190851/tyson-foods-reports-second-quarter-2025-results">second-quarter sales of $13.07 billion</a>, consistent with last year, missing the analyst consensus estimate of $13.14 billion.
Sales volume of Beef decreased 1.4% Y/Y, Pork declined 3.8%, Chicken climbed 3%, and Prepared Foods dropped 2.6%.
Gross profit declined 30.7% to $600 million from $866 million the prior year, with the margin contracting 200 basis points to 4.6%. The company's operating income plunged 67.9% to $100 million, with an operating margin of 0.8%.

The company held $992 million in cash and equivalents as of March 29, 2025.
"Our consistent focus on operational excellence, winning with customer and consumers, leveraging data and digital, and enhancing our financial strength has resulted in four consecutive quarters of year-over-year improvements in our top and adjusted bottom lines," said president and CEO&nbsp;Donnie King.
Outlook Reaffirmed: Tyson Foods sees FY25 sales to be flat to up 1%. The company anticipates total company adjusted operating income of&nbsp;$1.9 billion&nbsp;to&nbsp;$2.3 billion&nbsp;for fiscal 2025
The company sees capital expenditures of $1.0 billion – $1.2 billion in FY25. Free cash flow is expected to be $1.0 billion – $1.6 billion.
Price Action: TSN shares traded lower by 9.1% at $55.20 at last check Monday.

While the Chinese have proposed the concept of special envoys, the U.S. is reluctant, favoring direct negotiations between Trump and Xi. However, the Chinese view this proposal as "risky and uncertain", <a href="https://www.scmp.com/news/china/diplomacy/article/3308919/us-china-trade-stand-ease-negotiators-must-be-agreed-upon-analysts">reported</a> the South China Morning Post.
Investors will also keep an eye on the Federal Reserve&#8217;s decision on interest rates this week.
Meanwhile, the 10-year Treasury bond yielded 4.31% and the two-year bond was at 3.82%. The CME Group's FedWatch <a href="https://www.cmegroup.com/markets/interest-rates/cme-fedwatch-tool.html">tool</a>&#8216;s projections show markets pricing a 98.2% likelihood of the Federal Reserve keeping the current interest rates unchanged in its May meeting.

The SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>) and Invesco QQQ Trust ETF (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/QQQ#NASDAQ">QQQ</a>), which track the S&amp;P 500 index and Nasdaq 100 index, respectively, fell in premarket on Monday. The SPY was down 0.70% to $562.82, while the QQQ declined 0.84% to $484.74, according to <a href="https://pro.benzinga.com/dashboard">Benzinga Pro</a> data.
Cues From Last Session:
Bolstered by strong performances in financial, communication services, and industrial stocks on Friday, U.S. markets finished the week higher for all major averages.
The S&amp;P 500, which recorded its ninth consecutive day of gains, the longest since Nov. 2004, and added 2.9% for the week, saw contrasting movements with health care and consumer staples declining on Friday. The Dow gained 3% and the Nasdaq rose 3.4% for the week.
After the end of the nine-day streak, the S&amp;P 500 index was out of the correction zone, just down 7.5% from its record high of 6,147.43 points, scaled on Feb. 19. Dow Jones was 8.33% lower than its 52-week high of 45,073.63 points and Nasdaq 100 was 9.54% lower than its previous high of 22,222.61 points.
Strong jobs data and rising factory orders buoyed the market. Nonfarm payrolls exceeded forecasts at 177,000, easing tariff-related hiring concerns, while the unemployment rate held steady at 4.2%. Additionally, new orders for U.S.-manufactured goods jumped 4.3% in March to $618.8 billion.
The Dow Jones index jumped 565 points or 1.39% to 41,317.43, whereas the S&amp;P 500 index surged 1.47% to 5,686.67. Nasdaq Composite ended 1.51% higher at 17,977.73, and the small-cap gauge, Russell 2000, also advanced 2.27% to 2,020.74.

Insights From Analysts:
According to Brian Therien, the investment strategist at Edward Jones, the process of completing a U.S.-China trade deal would likely be complex and lengthy. &#8220;Any de-escalation in trade tensions should be positive for the economy and financial markets, in our view,&#8221; he said.
The solid labor market should allow the Fed to remain on hold a while longer, said Therien, as it will help the Fed to gain greater clarity on the impact of tariffs on inflation.
&#8220;Bond markets have pushed back expectations for the next Fed funds rate cut to July, from June, though total rate cuts priced in for this year remain in the 3-4 range,&#8221; he said.
&#8220;Wider earnings growth should drive more balanced market performance across sectors, strengthening the case for portfolio diversification, in our view,&#8221; he said about corporate earnings.
Ryan Detrick from Carson Research highlighted that the S&amp;P 500 has witnessed seven other nine-day winning streaks over the last 40 years.
&#8220;Only once did the economy move into a recession within six months, and that was in 1990 when oil spiked due to Iraq invading Kuwait,&#8221; he highlighted.

Asian markets were mixed on Monday. China&#8217;s CSI 300 and Australia's ASX 200 indices declined. While Hong Kong's Hang Seng, Japan's Nikkei 225, India's S&amp;P BSE Sensex, and South Korea's Kospi index rose. European markets were also mixed in early trade.

US Stocks Likely To Open Lower After S&P 500's 9-Day Streak: 'Any De-Escalation In Trade Tensions Should Be Positive,' Says Expert

In a recent interview, United States Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins signaled a new wave of regulatory scrutiny headed for America&#8217;s largest food, beverage, and retail brands.
What Happened: Speaking on the All-in Podcast on Sunday, Secretary Rollins discussed the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), highlighting its $123 billion annual cost.
She noted that SNAP accounts for 70% of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's budget and roughly 2% of the entire federal budget.
Rollins further adds that roughly 10% of this budget, or $15 billion a year, is spent on soda, with 75% of the population on SNAP being clinically obese. &#8220;Taxpayer dollars be[ing] spent on sugary drinks and junk food that&#8217;s making our kids sick? Absolutely not,&#8221; she says.

She blames this squarely on the lobbyists, saying that &#8220;the amount of money that is at stake is reflected in the amount of lobbyists that are out and about,&#8221; but adds that the program will not be eliminated, and will instead be realigned to &#8220;make America healthy again.&#8221;
Why It Matters: SNAP benefits have been in focus ever since the new administration took over, with <a href="https://benzinga.com/news/25/02/43901558/snap-benefits-in-focus-trump-admin-targets-bidens-food-assistance-policies">plenty of pushback</a> against potential cuts, coming from the likes of Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA), who called it &#8220;slashing benefits for working-class Americans to pay for tax breaks for the ultra-rich.&#8221; 
Several leading food, beverage, and retail brands too face a top-line hit if these changes come into effect, with a substantial portion of their revenues coming from purchases made using SNAP.
According to analyst Alexia Howard from Bernstein, a wide-scale cut to SNAP could hit General Mills Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GIS#NYSE">GIS</a>) the hardest, given its cereal line-up.
Besides this, there are beverage stocks such as Coca-Cola Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/KO#NYSE">KO</a>), PepsiCo Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PEP#NASDAQ">PEP</a>), and Monster Beverage Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MNST#NASDAQ">MNST</a>), which are likely to be hit hard, according to a Citi Research note.
Among retailers, dollar stores such as Dollar General Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DG#NYSE">DG</a>) and Dollar Tree Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DLTR#NASDAQ">DLTR</a>) are the most likely to be impacted by cuts to the SNAP program, according to Bernstein analyst Zhihan Ma. &#8220;If you're a dollar store, your full value proposition is predicated on servicing the lower-income consumers,&#8221; Ma said, in a report <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2025/04/16/proposed-snap-cuts-pressure-low-income-shoppers-retailers.html">by</a> CNBC.

The CNN Money Fear and Greed index showed some improvement in the overall market sentiment, while the index was in the &#8220;Fear&#8221; zone on Friday.
U.S. stocks settled higher on Friday following the release of jobs data, with the S&amp;P 500 recording gains for the ninth consecutive day to notch its longest winning streak since Nov. 2004.
All three major averages recorded gains for the second week, with the S&amp;P 500 adding 2.9% and the Dow gaining 3% on the week. The Nasdaq, meanwhile, closed higher by 3.4% for the week.
On the economic data front, nonfarm payrolls rose by 177,000, beating expectations of 130,000 and easing concerns over tariff-related hiring slowdowns. The unemployment rate remained unchanged at 4.2%, as expected. New orders for U.S.-manufactured goods, meanwhile, rose by 4.3% to $618.8 billion in March.
DuPont de Nemours Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DD#NYSE">DD</a>) shares rose on Friday after the company's first-quarter 2025 results topped Wall Street estimates.
Most sectors on the S&amp;P 500 closed on a positive note, with financial, communication services, and industrials stocks recording the biggest gains on Friday. However, health care and consumer staples stocks bucked the overall market trend, closing the session lower.
The Dow Jones closed higher by around 564 points to 41,317.43 on Friday. The S&amp;P 500 gained 1.47% to 5,686.67, while the Nasdaq Composite climbed 1.51% to 17,977.73 during Friday's session.

At a current reading of 42.6, the index was in the &#8220;Fear&#8221; zone on Friday, versus a prior reading of 41.5.
The Fear &amp; Greed Index is a measure of the current market sentiment. It is based on the premise that higher fear exerts pressure on stock prices, while higher greed has the opposite effect. The index is calculated based on seven equal-weighted indicators. The index ranges from 0 to 100, where 0 represents maximum fear and 100 signals maximum greediness.
